Sacré-Cœur French Church
The Roman Catholic church “Sacré-Cœur”, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was built in 1930 by the congregation of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, next to the charitable institute founded here in 1906 by Monsignor Vladimir Ghika. In 1948 the sisters were forced to leave the country and sold the property to the French state; the institute's buildings were nationalized and became the “C.I. Parhon” Endocrinology Hospital, but the church and the parish house remained French. Closed by the communist authorities in 1957, it reopened in 1991.
