Vlădichii Mills (St. Eleutherius)

Morile Vlădichii were a complex of water mills on the Dâmbovița, whose name comes from the mill site granted in 1629 by Alexandru Iliaș to Metropolitan (“vlădica”) Grigorie. Here the Metropolitanate built a wheat mill, a fulling mill for woolen cloth, a tannery and a tobacco mill, which were leased to craftsmen and merchants. After St. Eleutherius Church was built (1743–1744), the mills also became known by the name of the neighborhood. An 1842 inventory describes the mill as having six wheels; it disappeared after the devastating floods of June 1864.
