Historic building · 1902–1903

Palace of the Faculty of Medicine

The building was constructed in 1902 to a design by the Swiss architect Louis Pierre Blanc, in the French Neoclassical style, and inaugurated on 12 October 1903; today it houses the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The symmetrical façade has a central block with a colonnade and a richly ornamented pediment, and the main entrance is a carved stone portal. On the day of the inauguration, the statue of Doctor Carol Davila, a work by Carol Storck, was unveiled in front of the palace. The new building marked an important step for Romanian medical education; at first it also housed the Faculty of Pharmacy.
