Ghica Tei Palace
The palace was built in 1822 by Prince Grigore Dimitrie Ghica, to plans by the Catalan architect Xavier Villacrosse, on the site of his old family home, on the shore of Lake Plumbuita. The Neoclassical, Italian-inspired building has an entrance guarded by sculpted lions, a frieze with winged nymphs and salons whose ceilings were painted with mythological scenes by the Italian Giacometti. In his will of 1833, the prince asked that the place remain open for the “innocent pleasure” of the public, establishing the Ghika Voevod Foundation. Next to it stands the Teiul Doamnei Ghica Church.
