St. John the Baptist Church – Moși

The church on Calea Moșilor, near Piața Obor, was built in 1807, according to the inscription above the entrance, by two parishioners – Ioan the gardener and Ioan Jimblaru – helped by other believers. Its present cruciform shape dates from 1868, and the first liturgy after the rebuilding was celebrated in 1870. According to the parish history, the Renaissance-style murals are the work of Gheorghe Tattarescu. After the 1940 earthquake, the walls were strengthened in 1942 with two reinforced-concrete belts. It is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Charalambos.
