Alexe Church
Alexe Church, on Calea Șerban Vodă, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, was built of brick probably around 1799, on the site of a wooden church. In 1812 it was rebuilt by Alexe Arnăutu together with his wife, Maria. The interior painting, in the Renaissance style, is the work of Gheorghe Ioanid. It was repaired after the 1838 earthquake and several more times up to the 20th century; between 1988 and 1998 it stayed closed most of the time, having at one point been proposed for demolition.
