St. Helen Roman Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Helen, on Cuza Vodă Street, was built by Bucharest's Hungarian community, on the initiative of the prelate Augustin Kuczka, as a church for the nearby Hungarian Catholic School. The foundation stone was blessed in June 1914, and Archbishop Raymund Netzhammer consecrated the church in January 1916. The dedication was chosen by the main donor, Elena (Ilona) Sterian, who died shortly after work began. The building, with a bell tower, is the work of the architect Carol Cortobius, in the Art Deco style.
