St. Nicholas Church – Broșteni

At the junction of Cuza Vodă, Elena Cuza and Poterași streets, Ștefan, the divan logothete (clerk) of the Metropolitanate, and his wife founded a smaller church around 1731, set on oak piles because of the marshy ground. Badly damaged by the 1838 earthquake, it was replaced by the present church, built between 1843 and 1848 with the support of the local tanners' guild, to plans by Simeon Hristovici, and consecrated in 1850. The tempera murals are the work of Petre Serafim. In the 1977 earthquake the tower over the nave collapsed and destroyed the old iconostasis, which was replaced in 1986.
