Voina House (townsman's house)

The house at 33 Calea Șerban Vodă, also known as the Voina House, after its last owner before the 1950 nationalization, is a merchant's dwelling from the late 18th century, now used as offices by the National Heritage Institute. It stands on the old Pod al Beilicului, the road by which the envoys of the Porte came to enthrone or depose the princes, in the former Mahalaua Slobozia Domnească, the third largest district of the city in 1810. Surviving records show that in 1883 the owner, Grigore Stănescu, removed the porch facing the street, replaced the clay roof tiles with sheet metal and altered the façade.
