Oborul Vechi Church

Oborul Vechi Church, dedicated to Saints Joachim and Anne, originated in a monumental stone cross, about four meters tall, which the serdar Matei Mogoș raised after the plague of 1718–1719, at what was then the edge of the city, near the old cattle market (obor). In 1768 Metropolitan Grigorie built a small church to house the cross in its altar, where it can still be glimpsed today through the Royal Doors. Enlarged at the beginning of the 19th century and repaired after the 1838 earthquake, it received its present form during the 1938 restoration.
