Olari Church

Olari Church was built in 1758, during the reign of Scarlat Ghica, by the treasurer Dumitrașcu Racoviță, with money left by Mihai Băcanul and with the help of Iancu Căpitanul and of the potters' guild (olari), from which it takes its name. It has a triconch plan, with a tower above the nave and a bell tower over the pronaos; it was restored several times in the 19th–20th centuries, and the murals were redone in 1869 in the manner of Gheorghe Tattarescu's school. In September 1982 it was moved on rollers 58 meters away from its site next to Calea Moșilor, and in 1983 it was shifted a further 22 meters or so; today it stands hidden behind the apartment blocks on Olari Street.
