St. Elizabeth Chapel
St. Elizabeth Chapel was founded by Princess Elisabeta, the wife of Carol I, who donated 12,000 gold ducats for the girls of the Elena Doamna Asylum; the foundation was laid on 24 April 1870, and the consecration took place in 1875. The design by the architects Carol Benesch and Hoffman combines Neoclassicism with Byzantine and Romantic influences; the iconostasis was carved by Karl Storck, and the interior painting was done by Gheorghe Tattarescu. A fire in December 2003 destroyed the painting and the roof, and since 2010 the chapel has served as a university chapel.
