Vlad Țepeș Castle (Water Tower)

The “Cetatea lui Țepeș Vodă” (Prince Țepeș's Citadel) water tower, known as Vlad Țepeș Castle, was built in 1906 in Carol Park for the Romanian General Exhibition celebrating 40 years of Carol I's reign. The building is a scaled-down replica of Vlad Țepeș's Poenari Fortress and concealed in its 23 m tall tower a 200 m³ cast-iron tank, intended for the firefighters, which however never worked. The plans are attributed to the architect Scarlat Petculescu, although other sources name other authors. After World War I it became a barracks for the guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
