Miorița Fountain
The fountain was built to plans by the architect Octav Doicescu and inaugurated on the occasion of the 1936 “Bucharest Month” (Luna Bucureștilor) exhibition, at the entrance to Băneasa, opposite the Minovici Villa. Made of Dobruja granite, it has an elliptical basin measuring 50 by 20 meters, in the middle of which rise two parallel walls 16 meters long. The black-and-white mosaic friezes, made by Milița Petrașcu together with Gheorghe Niculescu-Mogoș, illustrate the ballad “Miorița”: on one side the shepherds with their flocks, on the other the wedding and death of the ewe-lamb's master.
