Hercules Felling the Centaur Statue
The statue “Hercules Felling the Centaur”, known simply as the Centaur, is a marble work by the sculptor Ion Jalea, unveiled in 1925. It depicts the hero's fight with the centaurs, one of Hercules' best-known exploits, and reflects Jalea's interest in the human form and in ancient mythology. The statue stands on a travertine-clad concrete pedestal about one meter high, on Rose Island in Herăstrău Park.
