St. Catherine Chapel
The chapel belonged to the “Sfânta Ecaterina” (St. Catherine) children's home, founded in 1897 through private initiative, on land near the Arcul de Triumf donated by the City Hall, to raise poor and orphaned infants. The founding committee was led by Ecaterina Cantacuzino, and the ensemble was designed by Ion D. Berindey, his first work in the Neo-Romanian style; the principal icons of the iconostasis are the work of the painter Belizarie. After 1948 the chapel was turned successively into a dining hall, a laundry and a storeroom, and after 1998 it was rehabilitated through the efforts of the priest Ștefan Sava.
