Cașin Church
The church was built for the Parcul Domeniilor neighborhood, which emerged after World War I when the Herăstrău estate was divided into plots; its name comes from a nearby street, named after the village of Mănăstirea Cașin, where battles were fought during the war. The design, chosen through a competition, by Dimitrie Ionescu-Berechet, chief architect of the Patriarchate, combines the Brâncovenesc and Byzantine styles. The foundation stone was laid in 1935, the structure was ready by 1938, and the work, interrupted by the war, was completed in 1959. Between 1956 and 1960 the church was closed, and the priest Dumitru Manta was imprisoned.
