Cantacuzino Palace

The palace was built between 1901 and 1902 to plans by the architect Ion D. Berindey, in the Beaux-Arts style, for Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, a former President of the Council of Ministers, nicknamed “the Nabob” for his wealth. The entrance is guarded by two lions, and the interiors were decorated by George Demetrescu Mirea, Nicolae Vermont and Costin Petrescu. The Treaty of Bucharest, which ended the Second Balkan War, was signed here on 10 August 1913. Inherited by Maruca Cantacuzino, the wife of George Enescu, the palace has housed the “George Enescu” National Museum since 1956.
