Church with Saints

The Church with Saints (Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple), on Calea Moșilor, replaced a church, probably of wood, from the late 17th century, founded by the priest Hierea Băjescul. The current building was erected under Metropolitan Daniil and completed in 1728; tradition says that the rebuilding was proposed by Prince Nicolae Mavrocordat, whose portrait is preserved inside, alongside that of the metropolitan. The name comes from the exterior painting: the upper register of the facades shows ancient philosophers and sibyls, hence its other name, the Church with Sibyls.
