Negustori Church

Negustori Church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, has been attested on this site since 1665, when it was a wooden church with a bell tower; it was destroyed by the great fire of 1718. It was rebuilt in brick in 1721–1726, under the care of Master Simion Cupețul, and painted by Pârvu Mutu and his apprentices. After the earthquakes of 1802 and 1838, the aga Manuil Serghiad repaired it at his own expense in 1839, and in 1867–1870 it received its two present towers. The original frescoes in the porch, which illustrate the Psalms, are a precious record of the dress worn in Wallachia at the beginning of the 18th century.
