Mântuleasa Church

Mântuleasa Church, dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, bears the name of the street, which in turn recalls Manta, a wealthy merchant who owned land in the area. According to the 1733 inscription, it was built by his sister, Maria, and his wife, Stanca. The tower, which fell in an earthquake, was replaced for a time by a wooden one, and in 1924–1930 the church was returned to its original form; when the walls were cleaned in 1925, Brâncovenesc-style frescoes came to light. The church and the parish house are historic monuments.
