Dichiu Church
Dichiu Church, on Icoanei Street, was built in 1773–1775 and is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God and St. Nicholas. Tradition holds that its founders were a “dichiu” – an administrator of the Metropolitanate's estates – and a certain Tirchilă, whose names the neighborhood has also kept. Lying far outside the city at the time, it first served as a skete (small monastery) for monks. It owes its present form to works carried out in 1880, when it was lengthened and given a wooden tower over the pronaos; on the facades, the painted medallions with the faces of saints stand out.
