St. Demetrius-Poștă Church

St. Demetrius-Poștă Church stands on a site where a place of worship existed as early as around 1500, rebuilt several times after wars, earthquakes and fires. Today's building was begun in 1819 by the Bishop of Buzău, Constantin Filitti, and finished in 1843; after the Great Fire of 1847 it received a new roof and murals by Carol Szathmari. It takes its name from the old Post Office Palace, now the National Museum of History, while the name “Biserica de Jurământ” (Church of the Oath) comes from the solemn oaths sworn by the altar. Today it is a university chapel.
