Post Office Palace

The Post Office Palace on Calea Victoriei was built between 1894 and 1900 to plans by the architect Alexandru Săvulescu, inspired by the post office building in Geneva, on the site of the former Constantin Vodă Inn, destroyed by the fire of 1847. The façade has a portico with ten Doric columns and statues by Ștefan Ionescu-Valbudea; most of the allegorical statues above the entrance fell during the 1940 earthquake. The central post office operated here until 1970, after which the building was converted for the National Museum of Romanian History, opened in 1972.
