St. John New Church (St. John – Piață)

St. John New Church, also called St. John “de la gura Pieții” (at the mouth of the Market), stands at the intersection of I.C. Brătianu and Corneliu Coposu boulevards, near Piața Unirii. It was built in 1756 by Ioniță Croitorul, head of the furriers and dyers, rebuilt in 1818 by a group led by the monk Ioanichie, and restored after the Great Fire of 1847. It has a rectangular nave, two towers and a twelve-sided dome. In 1986, during the systematization of the center, it was moved about 23 meters using engineer Eugeniu Iordăchescu's method, and then hidden behind apartment blocks.
