Theodor Aman Museum

The house was built between 1868 and 1869 to plans conceived by the painter Theodor Aman himself and carried out by the contractor Fr. Scheller, with sculpted decorations made together with Karl Storck. It is the first artist's house-studio in Romania: the murals, stained glass, stucco work and carved furniture reflect Aman's vision, and the studio has a Neo-Gothic decor. The artist lived and worked here until his death in 1891. Thanks to his widow, Ana, the house and collections passed to the state in 1904, and the museum opened on 16 June 1908.
