Matache Măcelaru Market Hall (demolished)
The Matache Măcelaru Market Hall, in Piața Haralambie Botescu, was built by Bucharest City Hall in two stages, in 1887 and 1898–1899, based on an 1886 design by the Municipal Technical Service. The original structure, typical of 19th-century European market halls, was of riveted steel with large glazed surfaces; in 1940–1941 it was given masonry walls, arched windows and a bas-relief, while keeping its metal roof structure inside. A historic monument and one of the last market halls of this type in the capital, it was demolished on 25 March 2013, during the term of mayor Sorin Oprescu.
