Monument to the Railway Heroes

The Monument to the Railway Heroes in Piața Gării de Nord was unveiled in 1923 in memory of the railway workers who fell in World War I, and is the work of the sculptors Corneliu Medrea and Ion Jalea. In the bronze group, the Fatherland crowns a railway worker with laurels; on one side of the pedestal stand two railwaymen, on the other a soldier protecting a woman and her child. The pedestal, of granite-clad concrete, bears the inscription “Eroilor CFR – 1916–1918” (“To the CFR Heroes – 1916–1918”).
