Știrbei Palace

Știrbei Palace on Calea Victoriei was built around 1835, to a design by the Frenchman Michel Sanjouand, for Barbu Știrbei, the future prince of Wallachia. Between 1849 and 1856 it served as a princely residence for official functions, with balls and soirées. In 1881 the architect Friedrich Hartmann remodeled it for Prince Alexandru Știrbei, adding the upper floor, the facade with four caryatids and the northeast tower. During the communist period it housed the Museum of Folk Art, then the Museum of Glass and Ceramics; returned to its former owners, it was sold in 2005, and since 2025 it has housed a luxury store.
